The Morning Show: Season 1 (2019)

Season 1
The Morning Show

Critics Consensus

Though The Morning Show often feels more like a vanity project than the hard-hitting drama it aspires to be, there is pleasure to be had in watching Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon give it their all.

Critic Reviews for The Morning Show Season 1

All Critics (81) | Top Critics (28)

The Morning Show dares to execute a very difficult balancing act, with women in off-camera command instead of assuming the positions assigned to them -- by men. The result so far is more than fair, but with continued storytelling perils ahead.

This is TV about the 1% made by the 1% and produced by the ultimate 1% company, and it's simply less interesting than the true story that it's ripping off.

When The Morning Show finally gets its setup established, and starts to grapple with the consequences and the meaning of what [Steve Carrell's character] has actually done, the show finds some momentum.

It's a throwback in all the wrong ways.

Nov 3, 2019 | Rating: C | Full Review…

Watching "The Morning Show" is a bit like watching "The Big Short," except nothing is said straight-to-camera and nearly everything is boring.

This show has everything.

Like the pants Alex wears and Bradley also favors for most of the show, the fact that the two protagonists have gender-neutral names is no coincidence. It's just one more rich detail in a show that demands analysis and critical thinking from viewers.

Nov 5, 2019 | Full Review…

We'll have to see if "The Morning Show" completely clicks, but even with an uneven first three episodes, Aniston is terrific as the veteran TV broadcaster who is, to borrow a phrase, mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.

Nov 7, 2019 | Full Review…

I don't think The Morning Show will reveal anything about network news or the challenges for women in the workplace that I don't already know, but, just like a cooking segment, it has sucked me in.

Nov 7, 2019 | Full Review…

That's The Morning Show. They're the Gin Blossoms of television shows. It's not particularly original, the writing is thin, but it's polished, it hits all the right emotional beats, and it's very watchable.

Apple knocked this one out of the park... screw the bourgeois critics. The drama and political undertones are intriguing. The story arch surrounding empowering women and the me too movement is honest and raw. This show is a triumph and a truly refreshing watch.

Not so good like "The Newsroom", but goes in the same direction (including rebrand the ACN Building as UBA Building). I really like addressed topics, the acting and storyline.

This show is surprisingly good! It has a very honest conversation about what's happening behind closed door of the news room. The performance of each member of the cast is really good.

Enjoying the show. Can't wait to see where the story is going. Always fun to watch Jennifer A and Reese W!

Enjoyable and familiar but the strong cast makes it more than worthwhile. Looking forward to how it all unfolds, including S2, because there's a lot to say and many stories to tell based on network drama.

Not sure why this isn't getting a better professional reviewer rating. Its well-acted, well-written, and with only four episodes it doesn't have the problem that many Netflix shows have of adding filler episodes in mid-run to meet a contract-required episode number minimum. It stays focused and is both entertaining and topical. Billy Crudup is a standout in this show. I hope they do a season 2. Seems like they left space for it.

Wow, the critics were way off on this. I never write Rotten Tomatoes reviews, but this show is so engaging and well-acted, just wait until the end of episode 2! Reese Witherspoon is phenomenal as always and this is one of best roles (if not the best) of Jennifer Anniston's career. I can't wait to see how it plays out!

Not impressed. Was really looking forward to this show and the first episode started OK. But then it just went downhill. The premise is good, but the acting is quite awful. Reese Witherspoon's accent keeps slipping between normal and Southern. Billy Crudup however is quite impressive. Writing is quite banal and in general, show is overly dramatic with none of the characters being relatable either. Cool premise but very poorly executed. Sorry...

I love this show actors are very talented, the writing could be little bit better, but this is not Friends so i guess I can't hope for the perfection.
